Ms. travelled Gillard of the Australian and New Zealand Memorial outside Seoul potency, marking the site of the battle of Kapyong, before flying to the demilitarized zone that separates North and South Korea.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the battle, which has been described as "the forgotten war forgotten battle".
A group of 36 Australian veterans and their families attended the event. Recipient of the Victoria Keith Cross Payne was among the veterans who were there.
Ms. Gillard spoke briefly at the one-hour ceremony and laid a wreath at the foot of the Memorial Australian and New Zealand.
"You came as Inheritors of a tradition", she told the veterans.
"You brought with you a legacy left by the men of Gallipoli." You were more than worthy of the tradition that you inherited. ?
Ms. Gillard honoured Australian veterans of the war of Korea as the "fathers of the modern army of the Australia".
"You have come here as the son of the Anzac, you left as the fathers of our professional army." "And Afghanistan operations in East Timor, training in Australia or abroad, this modern Australian army is still a child of Kapyong", she said.
The Chief of the army of the Australia, lieutenant general Ken Gillespie also laid a wreath.
"It is a special moment in my career," he said.
After the event Ms Gillard said that Australians not many are familiar with the war or battle.
"I regret the fact that we have not paid in my opinion, sufficient honour and attention to men who are here today and many other men who is still alive and fought in the war of Korea," she said.
The New Zealand Defence Minister Dr Wayne Mapp also attended the function.
A line of Korean soldiers on a kilometre long was side by side on a road near the memorial, holding in New Zealand and Australian flags.
Seventeen thousand Australians served in the conflict. He claimed 340 of their lives.
Ms. Gillard organizes a dinner for Veterans of the war of Korea, this evening and will mark Anzac Day tomorrow to the Korean War Memorial.
